Data sources and attribution
Byrz is built on open data. Most of what you see on a property page, the address itself, the zoning, the flood mapping, the suburb profile, comes from Australian government datasets that are published for anyone to use.
Open does not mean unowned. Each of these datasets is released under a licence, and most of those licences say the same thing: you may use this, and if you do, you must say where it came from. This page is where Byrz says it. Every dataset below is listed with who owns it, what Byrz uses it for, the licence it is released under, and a link so you can go and read the original.
One more thing worth knowing as a buyer: none of these sources is guaranteed to be perfect or current. They are the best public record available, which is not the same as the truth about a particular home. Byrz shows you what the record says. Before you rely on any of it, check with the agent, the council, or your conveyancer.
Address data: the Geocoded National Address File
Australia has one official list of addresses. It is called the Geocoded National Address File, or G-NAF, and it is maintained by Geoscape Australia from data supplied by every state and territory. Byrz checks the addresses it receives against that register. When the register confirms an address, Byrz can show it in full. When it cannot, Byrz deliberately shows less: a street without a number, or a suburb without a street. Saying less is how Byrz avoids publishing an address that may not be real.

Disclaimer
Geoscape Australia endeavours to ensure that its products and services are accurate and complete by using source data primarily from Australia’s federal, state and territory governments and other reputable sources. However, Geoscape products and services are provided ‘as is’, and to the extent permitted by law neither Geoscape Australia, nor its distributors, nor Australia’s federal, state and territory governments, nor any other providers of source data make any representations or provide any warranties (express or implied) about the accuracy or completeness of Geoscape products or services, their fitness for any particular purpose or that they are without errors or faults.

The licence itself adds, at section 5(a): Unless otherwise separately undertaken by the Licensor, to the extent possible, the Licensor offers the Licenced Material as-is and as-available, and makes no representations or warranties of any kind concerning the Licenced Material, whether express, implied, statutory, or other. This includes, without limitation, warranties of title, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, absence of latent or other defects, accuracy, or the presence or absence of errors, whether or not known or discoverable. Where disclaimers of warranties are not allowed in full or in part, this disclaimer may not apply to You.
Modifications
Byrz does not republish G-NAF. It uses the register to check and, where needed, to correct or shorten the addresses it receives from other sources, then publishes the result. Under the licence that makes what you see on a Byrz page adapted material rather than the dataset.
Use restriction
The open G-NAF licence carries one restriction beyond a standard Creative Commons Attribution licence, at section 2(a)(2): You must not use the Licensed Material for the generation of an address or a compilation of addresses for the sending of mail unless You have verified that each address to be used for the sending of mail is capable of receiving mail by reference to a secondary source of information other than the Licensed Material.
Every source Byrz publishes from
Individual research panels in the app also name their own source and the period it covers, so you can see which dataset a specific number came from. This is the full list.

Something wrong on a page?
If a Byrz page shows the wrong address or the wrong detail for a property, every public property page carries a correction contact and a removal contact. You can also email privacy@byrz.com.au. Corrections that belong to the underlying dataset are best sent to the custodian named above as well, so the fix reaches everyone who uses it, not just Byrz.
